After leaving University I worked in the drinks industry for 10+ years working in Sales and Marketing for some high profile companies including Diageo, Constellation Wines (they own Hardys, Banrock Station etc) and Greene King Pub Company.
To be fair, I was already starting to feel a bit disillusioned with my career before I married my husband so I spent a year retraining while working full time, until I was qualified as a Career Coach.
I married my husband in 2005, had my daughter and quickly realised my working life was going to have to change. Suddenly I needed a career that could move around with me and that would be as flexible as I was going to have to be.

Since starting Insight Coaching we have moved 4 times, twice to Germany and luckily the business has been flexible enough to take with me.
I tend to do a lot of work with dependants who are returning to work after a career break – they may not know what they want to do so I help them work
on this using a number of techniques, or they may know what they want to do but would like some support in building their confidence before they return to the workplace. Alternatively I work with clients who have decided to set up their own business. Sometimes they already know what the business will be and I work with them to get it off the ground, or we may work together to generate a business idea that fits with their skill base and personality. In addition to my coaching work I also work as an associate consultant to CTP who provide career transition workshops to personnel leaving the military, helping them to understand what they need to do to start a new career in civvy street.
I love the work I do, it is incredibly fulfilling working with clients and watching them achieve their goals and develop in confidence. As many of my clients are dependants, when I explain I will be taking a month off to move home and re-establish the business, they understand. Plus I get to set my own hours so I still have time to spend with my daughter, family and friends. The downside is I have spent a fair bit of money on new business cards each time we move and it is more difficult to establish the business in one known location as a normal business would do, but that is the challenge and I simply work with it.
